Publics of the First Public Museums I. Institutional Sources, XVIII-XIX c. (Università della Svizzera Italiana)

Workshop

The workshop "Publics of the First Public Museums (XVIII-XIX century). I. Institutional Sources" is part of the research project "Visibility Reclaimed" directed by Carla Mazzarelli. This first workshop focused on research methods and the analysis of institutional sources relevant to the study of the public in early public museums, such as regulations, staff reports and printed catalogues. It highlighted the role of institutions in relation to the public and discussed how these sources allow to reconstruct the dialogue between publics and museums in a historical and political context. It also looked comparatively at other public places such as libraries and monuments, encouraging the use of Digital Humanities. Among its different activities, Bárbara Romero also had the opportunity to present one of her research projects, who spoke about "Who was visiting? Analysis of Advertisements in Nineteenth Century Exhibitions Catalogues".
