O GRUPO DO LEÃO : EXPLORANDO A INCLUSÃO DAS PESSOAS COM DEFICIÊNCIA VISUAL EM MUSEUS ATRAVÉS DE UMA EXPERIÊNCIA VIRTUAL IMERSIVA

Research stay

Leticia Crespillo, post-doctoral researcher of this team, had the opportunity to opportunity to collaborate in this exploratory project. Its objective is to study and develop a proposal for the implementation of haptic and auditory material for the inclusion of visually impaired people in museums, based on an innovative approach (3D modelling and printing, photogrammetry, virtual reality, etc.), Game Engines, and tactile and auditory technological devices). In particular, it aims to expand on the research carried out by Dr. Leticia Crespillo Marí, a member of the iArtHis_Lab team (Department of Art History at the University of Malaga) during her stay at IHA, reflecting on the possibilities offered by virtual reality as a mediating element between the artistic object and the visually impaired public. The work is based on the photogrammetric digitalisation and virtual treatment of the painting O Grupo do Leão (1885) by Columbano Bordalo Pinheiro, already carried out during a previous stay in 2021 of this researcher at the IHA-FCSH Universidade Nova de Lisboa / MNAC, in order to develop and evaluate a haptic technological prototype that allows an aesthetic encounter, as authentic as possible, between this museum object and the blind public. Current issues will be addressed on the technological possibilities of multimodal interaction to improve access and participation of visually impaired people in museums, and their ability to understand and explore the collections.
